Last night Slitta gave fans insight to his music never previously experienced in an effort to help people catch up on all the music he has delivered, New Regime Agency in conjunction with D1CMG presented Slitta’s Story Tellers.
Slitta wears many hats and it’s easy for one to be confused by all that he does. Overnight, in a small room at 35th Street Studios among some of Chicago’s most notable, Slitta unpacked his process, motivation, and the roles he played in creating the four projects he has released since March of 2018.
Hosted by Shawn Grant and DJ’d by Marie Tha DJ, Slitta’s Story Tellers was a unique event and just was Chicago needed. I’m a setting very reminiscent of MTV’s Unplugged, Slitta combined high energy, mimosa-infused performances with intimate interviews for a night to remember.
Slitta opened by performing songs from his Who Made The Beat playlist, the project that started it all. Already a well- known producer and songwriter, Who Made The Beat was Slitta’s introduction to the world as a D1CMG artist. The nine track effort, featured YouTube beats the embodied the vibes of popular artists.
He followed with performances and explanations of tracks from his debut album Pink & Red. Slitta described the album, that he admittedly wanted to be entirely self produced as him painting his own picture of r’n’b. Though, he felt compelled to utilize beats created by other producers, Slitta still delivered an album that only he could. The performance reinstilled just that. A fan favorite, “Sex on Fire” was the last song added to Pink & Red and Slitta’s favorite, as well.
More Red seemed to be the most important album of the evening. Slitta performed a number of songs from the album released in January and opened up about his inspiration. “Coach Fatality, he the G.O.A.T,” Slitta explained. “He was my motivation behind this project. He’s the best producer ever.”
Slitta didn’t let his admiration for the work of his fellow 80Apes producer dominate his interview. He unpacked “Finesse Magician” a phrase Slitta coined himself, emphasized the importance of uniting and creating positive activities to save the youth from “Englewood Blues,” and celebrated that his cousin and motivation for “Dirty Game” would be home soon.
More Red was followed by its successor More Pink. Slitta admired that it was the source of much panic, as he only had a months to create it. Slitta performed the self-produced “Obsession.” Slightly disappointed, Slitta felt he had to perform “What Lovers Do.” The Song unfortunately wasn’t made in time to appeal on his More Pink album. It’s not only one of Slitta’s favorites, but a fan favorite as well and inspired word for word recitation and much dancing from the crowd.
Slitta ended the night with the previously unreleased, “Apeshit” which is undoubtedly a hit as well.
All and all Slitta’s Storytellers was an event that won’t soon be forgotten.
According to the D1CMG camp fans are less than a month away from yet another Slitta project. However, before the Trap Angel takes fans on a new journey he made one last video from More Pink: “Last Time.”
Last night Slitta explained to Power92’s Bree Specific that he made More Pink because he wanted to make “women feel like women again.” After handing out dozens of pink roses at his silent listening party and pouring out his emotions, Slitta may have very well been successful.
