Twista Presents Black Friday with Sunny Woodz and Friends

Last night, Sunny Woodz made history when he shut down Cairo Ale House headlining his very first showcase.

It is an undisputed fact that no one can bring artists together like Sunny Woodz. Last night, he reminded Chicago of that connecting artists and fans alike at his well-planned and flawlessly executed showcase.

“Twista Presents Black Friday with Sunny Woodz and Friends” was a movie. Divided into three sets, complete with different vibes, the show case had something for everyone. ShaneikaSpeaks hosted the first segment, which was hosted by DJ MightDoSumn. Messiah, FlossMobChase and Murph Watkins were among the performers creating the energy that got things in motion. The second set was a trip around the city piloted by Yo Carlie, with DJ TRell providing the sounds. Jae Haze, Weasel Sims, and Clark Airlines were just of the few of the artists along for the ride. The final set of the show was both hosted and dj’d but Sunny Woodz himself. The anti-socialite saved the best for last, as his line up included Illi, Stunt Taylor, and Lucci Vee.

Sunny Woodz literally shut down Cairo Ale House, with performances up until the very moment they closed. He closed the show performing alongside one of his favorites, Chimeka.

Chicago couldn’t have asked for a better show. Sunny Woodz blurred the lines between artists and fans, allowing those who are all too often on stage a chance to be a part of the audience and cheer on a few of their favorite hometown acts.

Curren$y, Freddie Gibbs & The Alchemist – Fetti

Last year Curren$y, Freddie Gibbs and The Alchemist assured fans that their joint album would be complete. Though up until September when Curren$y took to social media to encourage Freddie Gibbs to complete his lyrics, the album seemed like an empty promise. Fast forward to today and fans are rejoicing as Fetti has finally made it’s debut.

Fetti, an nine track effort is the sole effort of three of hip hop’s most notable. The Alchemist laid the groundwork for each of the nine tracks, arguably delivering some of his best work. The living legend makes it clear his relevance is nonnegotiable.

Freddie Gibbs represented Gary Indiana in a way the world hasn’t seen since Micheal Jackson. Punchlines delivered in through a barrage of different flows serve as reiteration that Freddie Gibbs has earned his spot in hip hop.

With one of the most identifiable voices in hip hop, Curren$y was everything fans would expect. The New Orleans native took off. Sounding like real life royalty of The Alchemist’s beat, Curren$y delivered quotable lyrics via laid back flows in the way only he could.

Disappointingly short, Fetti is just more than 20 minutes long. But in that short time the trio reminds the world that versatility of hip hop is never to questioned.

Teyana Taylor – K.T.S.E.

It’s hard to believe it has been four years since Teyana Taylor’s last album. Today, the unstoppable beauty reminded the world why no one minded waiting another day for her G.O.O.D. Music debut K.T.S.E.

The self proclaimed Princess of Harlem shines over Kanye beats the way only she could. K.T.S.E is eight diverse tracks that capture just a few of the many facets of the multitalented beauty. With a little something for everyone in a rather small package Teyana, Harlem and G.O.O.D. Music have much to be proud of.

The short effort features the most controversial man in hip hop Kanye West and Ty Dolla $ign. And for anyone who misses the old Kanye, no need to worry he and Teyana channeled just that.

The Black Hole Demo

Indiana native James Otha is an artist to look out for. The artist and producer with an eclectic sound and flow is stealing the attention of hip hop fans and rightfully so.

The self proclaimed nerd and comic book junkie has a knack for word play that seems to be a rarity in a sea of mumble rappers. Though, he raps, James Otha is a fan of jazz, soul and the blues and he appreciation for the music is evident. Often infused in his own music are the influences of other genres.

James Otha debuted his latest project The Black Hole Demo last week. The seven track effort is riddled with witty lyrics and super hero references and colorful combinations of hip hop and other genres. Predominantly used to put James Otha’s talent in the spotlight, The Black Hole Demo only features three other artists: Ridley Victoria, The R.A.M. and Dre Dys.
